Charles Sturt University expands five-star rated social work course to Sydney

Charles Sturt University is excited to expand its Master of Social Work (Professional Qualifying) and the Graduate Certificate in Human Services to its North Sydney campus from July 2026.

The expansion responds to sustained demand for qualified social workers and human services professionals in Sydney and internationally, at a time when skilled graduates are critically needed in community, health and government sectors.

A nationally recognised leader in social work

The Good Universities Guide 2025/2026 gave Charles Sturt University a five-star rating for social work over all educational experience and postgraduate salaries, with graduates earning a median salary of $95,000. The guide also ranks Charles Sturt University number one in Australia for social work postgraduate full-time employment outcomes, with 94 per cent of graduates employed within four months.

Charles Sturt University has also been recognised as the number one public university in Australia for graduate employment for nine consecutive years.

Scholarships available for launch intake

To support the introduction of these programs in Sydney, Charles Sturt will offer generous scholarships to eligible students, including a new launch scholarship providing a 35% tuition fee reduction for eligible students commencing either program in July 2026.

Course overview

Master of Social Work (Professional Qualifying)

A two-year, on-campus postgraduate degree in Sydney. The course is accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers and recognised by the International Federation of Social Workers, providing a globally recognised qualification.

Graduate Certificate in Human Services

Designed as a pathway program, this course can help students meet the academic requirements for entry into the Master of Social Work (Professional Qualifying).

Entry into the master’s degree requires completion of a relevant three-year AQF Level 7 qualification, including at least one year of social and behavioural sciences study. Applicants who do not meet these prerequisites may satisfy entry requirements through additional study, including the Graduate Certificate in Human Services. Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Human Services, students will be eligible for two subject credits towards the Master of Social Work (Professional Qualifying).
