Charles Sturt University Awards First Vice Chancellor International Excellence Scholarship in Sydney
Our trailblazing recipient shares how the scholarship is transforming their studies, career aspirations, and wider life.
Charles Sturt University has awarded its first-ever Vice Chancellor International Excellence Scholarships at its Sydney campus – marking a significant milestone in the University’s global engagement strategy.
Among the inaugural recipients is Lee Nguyen, a Bachelor of Business student from Vietnam, who described the recognition as “one of the most meaningful moments of my life.”
“Winning the scholarship reduced my financial pressure, but more importantly it motivated me to study harder and prove that I am worthy of this opportunity,”

The scholarship – launched in 2025 to attract and support high-achieving international students – provides both financial assistance and recognition of academic potential.
For Lee, the impact has gone beyond tuition fees.
“I didn’t believe I would receive it. When I found out, I couldn’t control my emotions – I told all of my family and friends. It was such an honour.”
Lee says Charles Sturt’s Sydney campus and its diverse community have made the transition from Vietnam seamless.
“As an international student, I never felt alone. Sydney is such a diverse and welcoming city, and at Charles Sturt University the teachers and classmates make sure you are always supported and included.”

One lecturer in particular made a lasting impact.
“My marketing teacher encouraged me so much – she told me I was one of her best students. That gave me the confidence to push myself further.”
Looking ahead, Lee plans to return to Vietnam after graduation to contribute to their family’s business and support the country’s economic growth.
“My advice to other students is simple: believe in yourself and just try. Even if you don’t succeed the first time, you will learn valuable lessons along the way.”
